Sensory Analysis Class 4/22

Our head of quality control is now making our employee education classes at WRB open to the public!  All beer lovers and aficionados looking to expand their knowledge will receive first hand tutelage on smelling, tasting and experiencing beer with acceptable and unacceptable qualities.

This class presents an examination of what happens when an unwanted off-flavor creeps in to the beer we love.  Ever tried a beer that tasted buttery?  How about papery or vinegary? These flavors and many more (before, during, and after the brew process), can overtake beer in an unsavory way.  Students will be introduced to two specific off-flavors in this class:  Oxidation and Diacetyl.  Along with a scientific look at how both flavors infect beer, WRB will also provide samples of purposefully spiked beer to train students on identifying their taste and smell.

Questions and discussion will be encouraged, and all guests will get a complimentary pint of beer at the end of class! We will have 25 spots open for this class-please click here to purchase tickets!

3-year anniversary party & barrel-aged bottle release

3-year anniversary party & barrel-aged bottle release

What better way to celebrate our 3-year birthday here at Wolf's Ridge than by throwing a party with some long-awaited barrel-aged beers?!

****IMPORTANT UPDATES DETAILED BELOW!! All guests planning on attending our bottle release party this Saturday, please read this information and reach out to WRB with any questions!

The party is taking place both in and outside our tap room walls, as we have shut down a portion of Hickory St. (from 4th Street to Lazelle) and the adjacent parking lot. Our tap room doors will open at 9:00 AM to the 50 guests who purchased early bird tickets. While waiting for the tap room doors to open at 10:30 AM to the general public, guests will be allowed into the outdoor space starting at 9:30 AM. Beginning at 10:00 AM, our outside drafts and cocktails will be available to purchase.

Into some more specific details about the party:
-ALL guests will be ID'd and receive a wristband upon entering the outdoor space.
-Guests entering the outdoor space at 9:30 will have the option to purchase coffee from our friends at One Line prior to beer sales beginning.
-DUE TO OHIO LIQUOR LAWS: The outdoor permit we have obtained essentially creates two separate spaces for this event. This means that alcohol purchased outside must be consumed outside. In the same rule, all alcohol purchased in the tap room must be consumed in the tap room. We apologize for any inconvenience this might cause! It was very important for WRB to extend the space guests could hang out and enjoy our beer, and this is one of the stipulations we must work with in order to make this dream a reality!
-Our kitchen will be operating with a special limited menu beginning at 10:30 AM.
-Guests will be able to order food via a service table located at the garage door entrance to our tap room.
-The outdoor portion of this event will conclude at 7:00 PM, but the tap room will be open as normal until 12:00 AM.
-We will have two local bands performing in the parking lot outside; the first band will play form 11:30 AM to 2:30 PM, and the second band from 3:00 PM to 6:00 PM!

The most important information we have to share (and one you all have been waiting so patiently for!) is which beers will be released, total bottles available, as well as price and maximum allotment per guest:

-Coconut Cream Pie 22oz, 1400 total/6 bottles per person max/$8 per bottle
-Bourbon Barrel Pi 12oz, 400 total/2 bottles per person max/$8 per bottle
-Dire Wolf 22oz, 500 total/3 bottles per person max/$9 per bottle
-Canis Mexicanus Double Espresso 22oz, 1000 total/4 bottles per person max/$14 per bottle
-Bourbon Barrel Canis Mexicanus 22oz, 650 total, 3 bottles per person, $20 per bottles
-Bourbon Barrel Coffee Vanilla Dire Wolf 22oz, 700 total, 3 bottles per person max/$20 per bottle

Bottle sales for the general public will begin at approximately 11:00 AM. As always, the order guests can purchase bottles in is determined on a first come first serve basis-the earlier you line up outside on 4th street, the sooner you'll be able to get your bottles! Please begin lining up at the intersection of 4th street and Hickory, NOT our tap room door (there will be an A-frame sign indicating where the line begins). Tickets for guests to determine the order for the bottle sale will be handed out at the entrance to the outside portion of the event (4th street and Hickory St.) when we open up at 9:30. We will call ticket numbers over a PA system in groups of 10 starting at number 1. We cannot guarantee bottles (especially barrel-aged variants) won't sell out, so guests arriving later in the morning/afternoon must anticipate this likelihood.

Cheers, and hope to see you there to celebrate with us!!

Special Dire Wolf and Howling Moon Bottle release

Wolf's Ridge is proud to announce our next bottle release! On Saturday, July 30th we  are hosting a special release that will feature our Coffee Vanilla infused Dire Wolf (Russian Imperial Stout) and Coconut infused Howling Moon (Imperial IPA).  Additional bottles for regular sale include 6-packs of Clear Sky, Clear Sky Daybreak and Driftwood, as well as 4-packs of regular Howling Moon.  Also special for this bottle release is live music featuring KrisB's Midnight Railroad from 12:00 to 4:00, and a live meet and greet with a wolf brought to us by local conservation group Ironwood Wolves from 11:00 to 1:00!

Dire wolf- Coffee Vanilla

Russian Imperial stout

10.4% abv, $12 22oz

Our coffee-infused Dire Wolf variants have been some of the most popular beers ever served at Wolf's Ridge, and Coffee Vanilla Dire Wolf might be the best yet. The addition of vanilla bean helps to smooth out the entire beer and add a lovely layer of perceived sweetness that truly pulls our stout into dessert territory. We marry the vanilla with a blend of One Line Coffee's Method Espresso and a rotating light roast coffee bean to offer a purely decadent drinking experience.

Howling Moon- Coconut

Imperial IPA

10% abv, $9 22oz

Our Howling Moon is bursting with bright tropical and citrus hop aroma with a resinous, bitter hop bite. The addition of toasted coconut is the perfect compliment to our fruity Imperial IPA. The coconut provides depth of flavor and smooths over the the bitterness to allow the sweet tropical notes to shine. Drink fresh because coconut and hop character diminish quickly!

Our full draft list for the release, including specialty infusions:

  • Clear Sky; Cream Ale
  • Creamsickle; Vanilla and Orange Cream Ale
  • Daybreak; Coffee and Vanilla Cream Ale
  • Driftwood; Session IPA
  • Citrus Surf; Grapefruit Session IPA
  • Golden Boy; Lychee IPA
  • Earthrise; IPA
  • Howling Moon; Imperial IPA
  • Coconut Howling Moon
  • African Moon; Infused Imperial IPA
  • Smoked Helles Lager
  • Beyond Measure; Witbier
  • L'Abondance; Saison
  • Dire Wolf; Imperial Stout
  • Dire Wolf Yub Nub; Coffee Cinnamon Imperial Stout
  • Coffee Vanilla Dire Wolf
  • Chris' Wheelhouse; coffee Baltic Porter
  • Watchtower Tea Time; Earl Grey ESB
  • Night Method; Espresso Milk Stout
  • Cask: Coconut Passionfruit Howling Moon
  • Cask: Clear Sky w/ Starfruit, Kiwi, & Blackberry
  • Cask: Coconut Cream Pie

Logistically, expect the following:

Line starts at the taproom door and goes along the building up Hickory Street. Doors open at 10:00. Each person will be handed a number which reserves your spot in line for the bottle purchase.

If you arrive after 10:00 please see a WRB employee to inquire about getting a number.
Snacks, coffee, etc will be available. Please be sure you are present in the Tap Room when your number is called if you go into the restaurant to eat food. We will not wait.

Please form a line to the bar to place orders for beer. This works very efficiently for our releases. Please bear with our taproom staff as filling many beer flights can take some time.

The bottle sale will begin around 11:00AM. No bottles will be sold before this time. We ask this so that everyone can get in the door and have beer in hand to enjoy themselves while they wait. If you cannot wait until your number is called please do not take one and just enjoy the amazing draft list!

Numbers will be called in rounds of 10 at a time to keep the actual line small and manageable.

You're welcome to hang out all afternoon. Be aware that if you want brunch the restaurant kitchen closes as 3:00PM to begin preparing for dinner service. Dinner begins at 5:00.

Tap Room anniversary with special bottle release

For over 8 months we've been aging our Gold Medal award winning Dire Wolf in a few different barrels and they're finally at their best!

In addition to releasing our barreled aged beers, we'll be celebrating the 1st anniversary of the Tap Room and the release of Clear Sky & Driftwood in 12 oz. bottles!

Join us on Saturday, January 23 for our next bottle release party featuring:

Live music from Jenny Flory beginning at 1:00p and from Donna Mogavero Music beginning at 4:00p.

  • Bourbon Barrel Imperial Stout ($16/btl)

    • We took our gold medal winning Dire Wolf Imperial Stout and aged it for 8 months in Watershed Bourbon barrels. The beer is brimming with deep malty character: chocolate, roast, espresso, and caramel. The barrel then layered rich notes of vanilla, oak, and a hint of warming sweetness over the beer. It's the perfect example of our local partnerships paying off with flavorful dividends.
  • Rum Barrel Imperial Stout ($18/btl)

    • We took our gold medal winning Dire Wolf Imperial Stout and aged it for 8 months in Caribbean Rum barrels. The beer is brimming with deep malty character: chocolate, roast, espresso, and caramel. The barrel then imparted lovely notes of vanilla and coconut to the beer. The end result will give you a soft spot for pirates if you didn't have one already!
  • Rum Line ($20/btl)

    • Rum Line is the cross between Dire Wolf One Line and Rum Barrel Dire Wolf. Early on in our experiments with coffee in barrel aged beer we discovered that One Line's excellent coffee pairs particularly well with rum. The beer before you is our gold medal winning Imperial Stout aged for 8 months in Caribbean Rum barrels. We then added a blend of One Line coffee beans to create the deep dark beauty before you.
  • Bourbon Barrel Canis Mexicanus ($20/btl)

    • After 8 months in Watershed Bourbon barrels, the Mexican Wolf is reborn. The time spent in the barrel lent wonderful notes of caramel, vanilla, and oak to an already intense brew. Canis Mexicanus is then aged on One Line coffee beans, cinnamon, a blend of chilis, cacao nibs, and vanilla bean. The resulting brew is spicy yet nuanced. We think the barrel aged version is the most complex yet.

Bottle limits: Two bottles of each variant per person. Possible second round of sales.

Logistically, expect the following:

Line starts at the taproom door and goes along the building up Hickory Street.

Due to the potential for inclement weather, we will have prepared an indoor waiting area for guests to mingle and enjoy complimentary coffee and small beer samples while we prepare the Tap Room. Guests may begin to line-up as early as they'd like and we will plan to have this area ready by 9am. Tickets will be given to guests BEFORE entering this space so that no one loses their place in line.

This worked very efficiently for our releases. Please bear with our taproom staff as filling many beer flights can take some time.

The bottle sale will begin around 10:30AM. No bottles will be sold before this time. We ask this so that everyone can get in the door, out of the weather and have beer in hand to enjoy themselves while they wait. If you cannot wait until your number is called please do not take one and just enjoy the amazing draft list!
Numbers will be called in rounds of 10 at a time to keep the actual line small and manageable.
We will have live music starting at 1:00p and will go until 7:00p. You're welcome to hang out all afternoon. Be aware that if you want brunch the restaurant kitchen closes as 3:00PM to begin preparing for dinner service. Dinner begins at 5:00.
Our draft list will be posted on our Facebook event page as we near the release, but expect 20 house beers on tap and 2 casks pouring, including special infusions of some of our regular offerings!
